What is sales territory?
A sales territory is the geographical area for which an individual salesperson or a sales team holds responsibility. Territories can be defined on the basis of geography, sales potential, history, or a combination of factors.
Why do we need sales territory?
Sales territories can help maximise sales and profits while allocating resources efficiently. Some benefits include:
Identifying hidden patterns and trends in your sales performance
Reducing conflict between sales people
Ensuring a fair and profitable workload for your sales representatives
How to create sales territory on a map?
To create sales territories on vMAP, follow these steps:
Step 1. Create sales territory
Given that there are many ways to represent sales territories, for example some companies use geographical boundaries while others use custom-drawn areas, vMAP provides two approaches to create sales territories:
Approach 1: Import the sales territory
If you are using geographical boundary/ post code area/ census area as the sales territory, you need to:
1. Create a new layer type in vMAP, and you'll get a new layer at the same time.
2. Import territory data to the new layer.
3. Create a new mapview and load the new layer in order to view your sales territory data. The data is stored on the layer, and to display the layer you have to create a new mapview then load into it the layer that includes the sales territory data.
Approach 2: Draw the sales territory
If you would like to draw customised sales area on the map, you need to:
1. Create a new layer type in vMAP, and you'll get a new layer at the same time.
2. Create a new mapview with a new empty layer, then draw polygons that represent sales territories on this new layer.
Step 2. Style and edit the sales territory
After the sales territories are created, you can style the territories with different colors, opacity values and patterns.
The information of the sales territory is changing on a daily basis, to make it meaningful and up to date, you can edit information of the sales territory as needed.
Step 3. Share and print the sales territory map
Once you have successfully created your sales territories on the map and styled them, you can share the map online, print or export it for collaboration purposes.
